Hugh Grant will not face charges

British actor Hugh Grant will not face charges over allegedly kicking a photographer and attacking him with baked beans, state prosecutors said Friday.

Film star Grant, 46, was arrested over the alleged incident -- photographs of which appeared in newspapers -- near his west London home in April.

A spokeswoman for the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) said:

"We have advised the police that there is insufficient evidence to charge Hugh Grant with any offence in relation to an allegation that he kicked a photographer.

"This is because there were clear discrepancies between the accounts of independent witnesses and those of the photographers involved.

"In relation to a second allegation involving a take-away food container, the CPS decided that a prosecution would not be in the public interest."

She said "the minimal nature of the alleged assault and the lack of pre-meditation on the part of Mr Grant" were also among the reasons for the decision.

Hugh Grant lashes out at photographer

Hugh Grant hurled a tub of baked beans at a photographer on Tuesday.

The actor was walking near his West London home at 10 a.m. and lashed out when a photographer asked if he could take his picture. The star allegedly kicked him three times and kneed him near the groin.

Photographer Ian Whittaker, 43, said:

"It looked like he had been out for a morning jog. I asked him if he would give me a smile because he was standing with his head down. But he must have been having a bad day because he started chasing me down the street.

"He gave me a couple of kicks in the legs and I think he kneed me."

Whittaker described how the "Music and Lyrics" star then picked up a takeaway container full of beans and threw it at him.

The photographer also claimed 46-year-old Hugh - who recently split from his girlfriend Jemima Khan - launched into a tirade of abuse aimed at his children.

Whittaker said:

"When I told him I had two children, he snarled, 'I hope they die of f***ing cancer'. That really upset me and is why I went to the police to make a complaint of assault against him. He was out of order."

Metropolitan police confirmed on Tuesday night that the incident had been reported and they were planning to question Hugh on the matter.

UPDATE: He has been arrested on Wednesday evening and questioned at a London police station. He was bailed to return in May.

Hugh Grant wants to publish anonymously

hughgrantmonstercritic.jpg

Hugh Grant plans to submit his first book under an anonymous name, so it isn't judge purely on his celebrity.

The Notting Hill star is currently working on his first literary effort - a "dark" and "disturbing" novel.

Grant confesses it's far from being finished, but he is already concerned his fame will taint the judgement of publishing companies.

He says:

"When I've finished it, I'll send it to an editor, anonymously, in order for it to be judged objectively. Because we all know about editors don't we?

"I could copy out the Yellow Pages and they would still publish it simply because I'm a celebrity.

"This way at least, my manuscript could be turned down by some 21-year-old publisher and I would walk away totally humiliated."

Hugh Grant: I'm not marrying Jemima

hughgrantjemimakhan.jpg

Hollywood actor Hugh Grant has dismissed any immediate wedding plans, saying he was not marrying long-time girlfriend Jemima Khan.

'People shouldn't believe what they hear, I am not marrying her. I've read and heard we are going to, but there is no truth in that,' the star said after his 'Music and Lyrics' premiere in London.

The couple's three-year relationship has had many ups and down, with Grant reportedly calling Khan a 'dictator' in the past. Earlier this month he was seen ranting on the streets of Beverly Hills, while she looked on glumly.

On the premiere night, the couple made no real attempt to cover up the bumps in their relationship, with onlookers saying Khan looked 'uncomfortable on the red carpet, like she didn't want to be there'.

Grant was celebrating his role as a washed up, commitment-phobic 80s pop star in the comedy. Co-star Drew Barrymore, who joined Grant on the red carpet in a John Galliano dress, said: 'It was lovely to work with Hugh. He is a complete gentleman.'

Khan also chose to sit and chat with a group of friends separate from Grant at a party later at Floridita in Soho, London.
