Students attacked in Russia
I personally don’t know about the situation in Nizhniy Novgorod, Russia.
When I was in medical school in Moscow, the situation was pretty much the same. Foreign students got beaten all the time or suffer verbal abuse on the street, even by young children as you walked pass by their schools. I guess Russians are not used to foreign students coming in drove to study at their university.
I suspect mistreatment can be felt everywhere, more so in Russia, because most foreigners cannot speak Russian, the only language that is used. Perhaps foreign students like me can afford a lot of things most Russians can only dream of – considering the average wage is USD 100 per month. Or perhaps the skin heads beat up people because they can – and want to. People are usually afraid of the unknown. And people who don’t share the same cultures are these people to the Russians.
