Star Jones had gastric bypass surgery
Star Jones Reynolds says in a new interview that her dramatic weight-loss was due to gastric-bypass surgery, and that she dodged questions about it for years because she was ''scared of what people might think of me", AP reports.
Reynolds, 45, says she was ''intentionally evasive'' when people asked how she'd dropped 160 pounds in three years. The former ''View'' co-host opens up about her weight loss and self-esteem issues in a story featured in the September issue of Glamour magazine, on newsstands Aug. 7.
''Everything about me was already so public (mostly my own doing -- talk about dumb!), so of course everyone wanted to know what I had done. I was also terrified someone would have a tragic result after emulating me without making an informed decision with her doctor.''
''But the complete truth is, I was scared of what people might think of me,'' she continues. ''I was afraid to be vulnerable, and ashamed at not being able to get myself under control without this procedure.''
Keeping her decision private made her a hypocrite, she says, because she had been so outspoken about her firing from ABC's ''The View'' last year.
Reynolds, who weighed 307 pounds at her heaviest, says her ''out-of-control behavior'' began around her 40th birthday in 2002. Feeling lonely, she turned to food for comfort and gained 75 pounds over the course of 17 months. She had the procedure in August 2003.
''I used to look in the mirror and take pride in my figure, but that was when I was legitimately a full-figured woman. I'd gradually gone from full-figured to morbidly obese.''
Reynolds opted for surgery after a friend expressed concern about her weight. It was a success, she says, though she found she was ''still consumed with the same anger, shame and insecurity as before.''
Her husband, banker Al Reynolds, encouraged her to begin psychological therapy in the summer of 2005. She learned, among other things, that she ''couldn't control what others thought,'' she says. She began to heal by talking openly about her weight loss to strangers.

Paris Hilton to sing in a movie
Producers are about to announce that they have cast hotel heiress and ex-con Paris Hilton in Repo! The Genetic Opera, a rock opera/horror film that begins a six-week shoot in Toronto on Sept. 10, canada.com reports.
The movie, based on a successful theatrical production by Terrence Zdunich and Darren Smith, is about an organ failure epidemic in 2056 that forces people to purchase genetically perfect ones from Geneco, a biotech company committed to collecting regular payments.
Director Darren Lynn Bousman recently told MTV:
“The idea is that everybody is buying up organs, and they cannot afford to pay for these organs. Thus, legalized organ repo-men come into the picture. Murder becomes sanctioned by law. So, if you buy a heart and can't afford it, someone can burst through the door and take your heart out… and they don’t get in trouble for it."
Bousman, who made the last two Saw films and the upcoming Saw IV in Toronto, will direct Repo!, in which the dialogue is completely sung.
At a fundraising event in Hollywood on Tuesday night, Hilton declined to reveal specifics but admitted she is in rehearsals for a “very cool and unique project.”
She told E! Online:
“We’re just in the studio. We’re doing dance and singing.”
Paul Sorvino will play Geneco owner Rottismo Largo and Alexa Vega (Spy Kids) has been cast as Shilo, the daughter of repo man Nathan. Tobin Bell, who plays the evil Jigsaw in the Saw movies, also stars.
Sources claim Hilton will play Heather Sweet, the daughter of Largo.

Nicole Richie is going to jail
A judge sentenced Nicole Richie to serve only four days in County Jail for her December DUI charge. The socialite has been credited for the six hours of time she has already served.
Nicole Richie was also fined $2,048 and and was ordered to attend a 21-day alcohol education course.
The soon-to-be mother must serve her time by the end of September.

Britney snaps up mansion on the spot for $6.5m
Britney Spears' impulsiveness isn't confined to head-shaving and taking impromptu dips in the sea in her underwear - it also extends to house hunting.
The singer was so impressed with Ray Liotta’s Pacific Palisades mansion that she snapped it up after a whirlwind 40-minute viewing.
Britney made sure that the house met her stringent requirements – by taking a dip in the pool with her sons, having a bath and testing all the toilets – before dropping £4 million on the Goodfellas star’s Mediterranean-style home.
An insider tells the Daily Star:
“Britney has spent the past month looking for a new pad ever since the child protection services reported that her Malibu and Bel Air homes have unsafe pool areas.
“And she fell in love with the Liotta pad the second she set foot in it. But she wanted to play house to make sure.”
Liotta designed and built the five-bedroom, eight-bathroom spread himself but put it on the market after upsetting his neighbours by crashing into their parked cars.

Jessica Alba breaks up with bf over the phone
After two-and-a-half years together, Jessica Alba and Cash Warren have split. The 26-year-old actress broke up with Warren, a 28-year-old producer, last week over the phone, Us Weekly reports.
Alba, who was abroad over the weekend promoting Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, called Warren on July 22 and told him, "I'm not in love with you anymore."
Within hours, Alba had dispatched an assistant to the L.A. home they shared to pack up Warren's belongings and move him out.
Warren and Alba met on the set of Fantastic Four in 2005, when Warren (a Yale grad) was the assistant to the film's director, Tim Story.

Lindsay Lohan arrested for DUI and coke
Lindsay Lohan was arrested for possession of cocaine, driving under the influence, transporting a narcotic into a custodial facility and driving on a suspended license in Santa Monica early this morning.
TMZ reports that her blood alcohol level was between .12 and .13, well over the .08 legal limit and cocaine was found in her pants pocket.
Just last week, Lohan was quietly booked by Beverly Hills PD for an alleged Memorial Day weekend DUI crash. She was due back in court on August 24 to face charges of driving with a blood alcohol level greater than .08 and misdemeanor hit and run.

The singer scored the longest-running Number One single in decade after claiming a tenth week at the top of the chart with the track yesterday.

Who's the father?
Nicole Richie was linked to Jeff Goldblum aka "The Fly" at one time and it looks like it may be possible that "The Fly" is Nicole's baby's Daddy.
The National Enquire has claimed that Joel Madden may not be the Daddy. It was reported that there were 4 guys in Nicole's life before she found out she was pregnant.
A source said, "Nicole recently underwent a series of tests, including blood and urine screenings, which confirmed she is pregnant."
Although Nicole has yet to confirm her pregnancy, the source also claims that paternity tests will be done to find out if Joel is the Daddy.
The reported four dudes on the hook until paternity tests can confirm the Daddy are Joel Madden, DJ AM, Brody Jenner and Jeff Goldblum.

Christina defends Britney
Pop star Christina Aguilera has defended fellow singer Britney Spears' parenting skills, insisting she is a great mother. The Beautiful hitmaker - who is reportedly expecting her first child with husband Jordan Bratman - says the pressures of childhood fame have taken its toll on her pal Spears - but she is not a bad parent.

Victoria Beckham snubs Paris Hilton
Victoria Beckham has reportedly turned down Paris Hilton's offer of friendship.
The Spice Girl has just moved to Los Angeles with her soccer star husband David but isn't interested in the hotel heiress' party invitation.
Paris is reported to have said about Victoria, "We could be soulmates." However, Victoria apparently told a friend, "Over my dead body!"
Sources claim Victoria - who counts Tom Cruise and his wife Katie Holmes and Jennifer Lopez among her good friends - believes being associated with Paris could have negative consequences for her.
Victoria - also known as Posh Spice - is keen to establish herself as a major Hollywood player and doesn't want Paris, who recently served time in jail, to interfere with that.
Meanwhile, Victoria's American TV debut has been slated by critics.
The reality show, 'Victoria Beckham: Coming To America,' followed the singer as she prepared to move to Los Angeles after David signed with soccer team Los Angeles Galaxy.
It was aired in the US at the weekend but it failed to win over many reviewers.
Linda Stasi of the New York Post gave it "no stars" and labeled it "an orgy of self-indulgence," while The New York Times' Alessandra Stanley described her as a "rich idiotic It girl."

Miller's parents wanted him to be a cop
Prison Break star Wentworth Miller disappointed his parents by becoming an actor - because they wanted him to be a cop.
The actor says his parents would try to encourage him to become a policeman, but he always knew his heart lay with acting.
He says:
"They were horrified. They'd invested all this time and money in my future, hoping to launch me into some sort of stable career.
"All my father knew was I didn't have a place to go every morning, I was sleeping in, and I didn't have a steady pay cheque.
"I would get emails from him reminding me that the LA Police Department had a volunteer programme, as a way of giving me something to do. But now, of course, they're pleased."

Britney puts her house on sale
Britney Spears is looking to make a new start. Us reports that she is putting her Beverly Hills mansion back on the market on Wednesday for $7.495 million, and she’s offering to sell it fully furnished.
The 25-year-old mother-of-two bought the 9,000-square foot home for $7.2 million in December 2006 and first put it up for sale last February. She took it off the market two months later after deciding to move back in following her rehab stint.
The Tuscan Villa-style abode located in a gated community includes 6 bedrooms, 6.5 bathrooms, a gourmet chef’s kitchen, a media room, and maids' quarters.
Spears' romantic master suite boasts a fireplace and a balcony overlooking park-like grounds and a sparkling pool.
The singer's Malibu house has also been on the market since November. It was initially listed for $13.5 million, but Spears has since lowered the asking price to just under $12 million.

Machiavelli changed Lohan's life
Lindsay Lohan has turned around her life with the help of an unusual self-help book - Machiavelli's The Prince.
The actress has said that the work by the renaissance statesman, which was a favourite of Napoleon Bonaparte and Benito Mussolini, is constantly with her.
She explained:
"I was going out with someone and they said I should read Machiavelli and I was like, 'Nah', and then I was, 'Ok, I'll read it', and now it is always with me."
Lohan first went to a Californian clinic in January after admitting to alcohol problems.
In May, the actress crashed her Mercedes in Beverly Hills and was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drink or drugs, prompting a second spell in rehab.
The 21-year-old actress claims she also relies on meditation and "serenity prayers" to help her through troubled times and says she still has issues, including a phobia of sleeping alone.
She told a glossy magazine:
"It changed my life. I didn't have a good grip on it and I needed to get my s* together. I was going out too much and I had too much pressure on my shoulders. I was not that happy and I needed to go to that place to be happy.
"There were therapy classes to talk about relationships and family issues and to hear other people's stories too. They teach you to give to other people and I walked away with the benefit of that.
"If I get stressed out I say a serenity prayer. I meditate too."
Despite her stints in rehab, Lohan insisted she will not give up her social life, insisting it does not conflict with her acting career.
She said:
"Look, I want to win Oscars. I want Academy Awards. I am serious about what I do and what I want to achieve. I detest being known as a party girl. Even that term 'partying' is such an annoyance."
"I'm a 21-year-old actress who loves to act and enjoys spending time with her friends because I am a very social person. Why am I chastised for that? I've been a dancer all my life and it doesn't kill you to go out and dance."
Elsewhere in the interview, Lindsay revealed she is terrified of sleeping alone.
Lohan's latest project is the thriller I Know Who Killed Me, in which she plays a stripper and had to film her first sex scene.
The star said:
"I told my mom about it and she screamed! I was actually so nervous but then I was fine. It's weird."

Nicole Richie is pregnant
After several weeks of Nicole Richie hiding her stomach from photographers, Us Weekly has confirmed that Richie is more than 12 weeks pregnant with her and boyfriend Joel Madden’s first child.
“She is extremely excited right now,” a source close to the star tells Us.
Richie, 25, shared the good news with her mom Brenda, and close friends like Mischa Barton, in early May, adds the Richie pal, after a pregnancy test came up positive.
And the pregnancy isn’t the only cause for celebration.
A source says Madden, 28, along with a few friends and his twin brother Benji, recently went shopping for an engagement ring.
And the twins’ older brother Josh Madden says, “Nicole is awesome. I would love for them to get married!”
Both families are thrilled about the couple’s baby joy: “Everyone’s happy, everyone’s good, everyone’s getting along.”
But Nicole can’t hide her bump forever. The Simple Life star is due in court on July 11 to answer DUI charges stemming from her December 2006 arrest. If found guilty, she faces 90 days to one year in jail because of a previous DUI conviction in 2003.

Pete Doherty pleads guilty
Pete Doherty has pleaded guilty to possessing class A drugs in court today, NME reports.
The Babyshambles frontman appeared at West London Magistrates Court after being stopped by police in Kensington High Street, central London, on May 5.
The singer pleaded guilty to possessing quantities of crack, heroin, cannabis and ketamine as well as to two driving offences.
He also pleaded guilty to the new charge of failing to appear in court without reasonable excuse, relating to his delayed attendance today.
As previously reported, Doherty was two and a half hours late to court this morning, forcing District Judge Davinder Lachhar to issue a warrant for his arrest.
The singer turned up minutes later admitting to photographers as he went in he was "feeling nervous" about the appearance.

Simpson's movie release pushed back
The omens look bad for Jessica Simpson 's late-summer film "Blonde Ambition."
Sources say her manager dad has pushed back the release date twice because the movie is no good.
An insider said:
"First, the release date was set for Aug. 3, and then it was delayed until the last week of August. Papa Joe then intervened and said he wasn't comfortable with the level of competition from other films that month."
Another source says:
"Jessica was not very focused on-set and flubbed her lines often. She always had her dog around, was on the phone with [then-] boyfriend John Mayer or was sitting in a warmed-up SUV."
The source said the film, which is still incomplete, is currently without a firm release date.
Meanwhile, the hot rumor in Los Angeles last week was that Simpson was set to have a romantic rendezvous with Jake Gyllenhaal. Although there is no evidence the two met up, paparazzi had been tipped off that the pair "have a crush on each other" and that they should be on the lookout for a date, according to one celebrity-chaser.

Katie Holmes auditions for broadway
Katie Holmes, who recently completed filming for Mad Money, is striving to take her film career to the next level with a plum role in the movie version of the 1982 Broadway musical "Nine".
The 28-year-old-wife of Tom Cruise did a singing and dancing audition Tuesday in the office of Oscar winner Rob Marshall who will be directing the film, reports Pagesix.
Other stars being considered for a role in the 1982 Broadway musical include Demi Moore, who did an audition on the same day as Katie, Renée Zellweger and Catherine Zeta-Jones.
According to the Hollywood reporter, the film is being produced by the Weinstein Co., which acquired rights to the project from original "Nine" book writer Arthur Kopit and composer Maury Yeston, who will serve as co-executive producers.
