Helen Mirren & Jack Nicholson - Sexiest Older People

helenmirrenblue.jpgjacknicholson.jpg

Dame Helen Mirren has been crowned as the world's sexiest older woman by her faithful fans.

The Queen actress, 61, who has bagged the top Oscar nod for her lauded performance as Her Majesty, tops a list of female stars who have passed the over-50 mark.

She has won the race, beating out none other than Sophia Loren - one of cinema's greatest sex symbols. The Italian screen siren, 72, came in second in the poll.

US star Meryl Streep, 57, also contending for the best actress Oscar for her role in The Devil Wears Prada, was third, followed by Judi Dench, 72, another of this year's Academy Award nominees.

Diane Keaton, 61, rounded off the top five.

In the men's category, Something's Gotta Give actor Jack Nicholson, 69, has been voted the sexiest older man, reports The Daily Mail.

Bond legend Sean Connery, 76, was next, followed by Robert Redford, 70, Clint Eastwood, 76, and Dreamgirls star Danny Glover, 60, in the poll of 2,700 film fans.

"Older actors have never been so sought after in Tinseltown and it's great to see the Brits flying the flag so high, especially in the Oscar nominations," said Fliss White, marketing manager for Lovefilm.com, which carried out the survey.

Some serious weight loss

reneezellwegerbf.jpg

The incredibly skinny actress has no problem gaining weight for roles. When originally cast for Bridget Jones's Diary, Renée Zellweger was told she was too skinny to play the part of a chubby Bridget and was forced to pack on the pounds for the role. Since then, she has gained weight for the sequel to Bridget Jones as well as Cold Mountain. As Roxy in the film version of Chicago, she underwent 10 months of gruelling training to reach professional standards and slimmed down once again.

More after the jump.

Katie Holmes can't find work

katieholmestomcruiseside.jpg

Actress Katie Holmes is having problems finding work because of her marriage to Tom Cruise and his belief in Scientology, according to Hollywood insiders.

The 28-year-old has reportedly asked her agent to relaunch her career following her break to marry Cruise and have their daughter, Suri.

But studios are said to be wary of the negative publicity surrounding her conversion to Scientology - and Cruise's outspoken statements about his religion, which have included an attack on the use of antidepressants by Brooke Shields.

"Studios may be gun-shy of her new status as a tabloid fixture," one movie insider told the Wall Street Journal yesterday. "And her expectations may be raised as the new Mrs Cruise. Stars of much bigger stature, including Meg Ryan and Demi Moore, have found it tough to regain their momentum after taking time off."

Cruise's beliefs are also said to be considered 'a box-office liability', which may be why he was dumped by the Paramount studio last summer.

Miss Holmes could not strike a deal to appear in the sequel to Batman Begins, despite starring in the original, but will co-star in the forthcoming comedy Mad Money opposite Queen Latifah.

Angelina's mother dies in LA

angelinejoliemother.jpg

Marcheline Bertrand, actress and mother of Angelina Jolie, has died of cancer, her daughter said Sunday.

Bertrand died Saturday afternoon at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center after a 7 1/2-year battle with cancer, Jolie said in a statement released by her manager. No age was provided.

Jolie, Brad Pitt and her older brother, James Haven, were at the hospital Saturday, the statement said.

Bertrand, who had small roles in the movies "Lookin' to Get Out" in 1982 and "The Man Who Loved Women" in 1983, raised Jolie and her brother after divorcing their father, Oscar-winning actor Jon Voight, when Jolie was a toddler.

A private funeral was planned.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be made to the Women's Cancer Research Institute at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.

Ellen about Portia: I've found my perfect fit

ellenportiagame.jpg

Ellen DeGeneres says she's been happy in relationships before – but not the kind of happy that she feels with Portia de Rossi.

DeGeneres, who is set to host the Academy Awards on Feb. 25, tells The Advocate in its new issue that she's reached a different level of contentment with her actress girlfriend of two years.

"I could say the same thing I've said in every relationship: 'I'm happy.' But there's happiness and there's love, and then there's completion," the Emmy-winning talk-show host says. "It doesn't take away from any of the relationships that I've had, 'cause I've had amazing relationships. ... But I feel like I found my perfect fit."

DeGeneres, who turned 49 Friday, and de Rossi, who will be 34 on Wednesday, began dating in late 2004.

One key to their happiness, says DeGeneres, is that they learn things from each other. "She's taught me lessons about myself, and I feel like I've taught her," says DeGeneres. "We've both changed and grown, and we just feel like, 'Oh, OK, this is completion.' "

In September 2005, de Rossi told The Advocate that her relationship with DeGeneres was "very loving, peaceful," adding, "I really feel not alone for the first time in my life."

In the new interview, DeGeneres also reveals how jazzed she is to be hosting the Academy Awards. "There's a nervousness, but there's also an excitement," she says. "You want to do your best, naturally, but it's also just letting it happen once you're out there."

The hosting gig means she won't get to walk the red carpet with de Rossi. But actually, that's okay, says DeGeneres: "When we're together and she's in her heels, I always feel like Tom Cruise next to Nicole Kidman."

Tyra Banks is mad at tabloids

tyrabanks.jpg

Tyra Banks was understandably hurt and surprised by the unflattering photographs of her in a swimming costume that appeared on the internet recently.

"It was such a strange meaness and rejoicing that people had when thinking that was what my body looked like," said the former model, who now presents her own chat show as well as America's Next Top Model and says her weight has fluctuated from between 148lbs (10 stone), and 162lbs (11.5 stone), since retiring from the catwalk.

"I don't want to sit in front of you and be soap-baxy and fake and say, "I love myself, I'm beautiful, it's great," adds the 5ft 10'' star. "I still feel hot, but every day is different. It's when I put on the jeans that used to fit a year ago and don't fit now and give me the muffin top, that's when I say, 'Damn!'"

Admitting that she doesn't have to "live up to that model standard anymore," Banks says she "isn't the healthiest eater" and she can't believe people could be so unkind. "I've made millions of dollars with the body I have, so where's the pain in that," she says. "If I was in pain, I would have dieted. The pain is not there – the pain is someone printing a picture of me and saying those things."

Ryan Reynolds needs plastic surgery after fall

ryanreynolds.jpg

Ryan Reynolds was forced to undergo plastic surgery after badly gashing his face in a bathroom fall. The actor reveals he was in the middle of shooting a new movie in New York when he passed out at home and woke up in a pool of blood.

The former star of Two Guys, a Girl and a Pizza Place says:

“I fainted for the first time in my life. I don’t know what happened. I was walking through the bathroom in my house, I went down, I smashed my head open, blood poured everywhere, and then I got plastic surgery to fix it. I’m an actor, we’re supposed to (get it) anyway… I’m having trouble breathing out of one of my nipples, so I’m gonna get my boobs done next.”

Tom Cruise is the 'Christ' of Scientology

tomcruisesmile.jpg

Tom Cruise has been named the new "Christ" of Scientology, according to the leaders of the religion.

The Mission: Impossible star has reportedly been told that he has been chosen to spread the word of his faith throughout the world.

Leader David Miscavige believes that in the future Cruise will be revered like Jesus for his work in propagating the religion.

A source told The Sun:

"Tom has been told he is Scientology's Christ-like figure. Like Christ, he's been criticised for his views. But future generations will realise he was right."

Cruise joined the Church of Scientology in the 1980s and has recently risen to one of the Church's top levels.

Isaiah Washington to be fired

isaiahwashingtonblue.jpg

Isaiah Washington of Grey's Anatomy may be on his way out, eonline reports.

It was reported that a highly placed source within the Touchstone/ABC family said that ABC and Disney executives are currently considering the option of firing Isaiah Washington from Grey's Anatomy, effective immediately, without having him appear in any kind of farewell episode.

According to this reliable source, if the network does follow through with this option, the producers are likely to run a full-screen announcement at the beginning of the first Burke-less episode that announces Isaiah Washington is no longer part of the show.

The loss of Preston Burke is not an easy task for Grey's writing staff to deal with, given that he has a major storyline (including a life-changing event) coming in the next few episodes that airs during February sweeps. Those episodes have already been shot.

The Beckhams TV show

beingbeckhams.jpg

David and Victoria Beckham have only been in LA for five minutes but they are already in talks to star in their own TV show.

They've been asked by Fox to make a flyon- the-wall series called Living With The Beckhams - like The Osbournes only with less swearing.

A source told People: "At the moment neither David nor Victoria are majorly famous in the States. But starring in their own show on one of America's biggest channels would catapult them to instant stardom.

"Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne were watched by millions and bosses think a show on the Beckhams could be just as good." David, 31, and Victoria, 32, were in Being Victoria Beckham and The Real Beckhams, in the UK.

CNN gives Anderson Cooper $4 million

andersoncooper.jpg

Anderson Cooper has signed a new deal with CNN that’s reported to be worth over $4 million a year.

According to industry sources cited by Broadcasting & Cable, Cooper’s old pact was worth around $2 million a year, and his new multiyear deal is "more than double that amount.”

The host of CNN’s primetime show "Anderson Cooper 360” will also be able to continue as an occasional contributor to CBS’s "60 Minutes.”

Insiders had speculated for months that Cooper might be jumping from CNN to CBS full-time to join the network’s morning newscast "The Early Show.”

Cooper’s ratings on CNN soared more than 30 percent in December in the key 25-to-54 demographic.

Isaiah Washington issues statement on 'anti-gay' remarks

isaiahwashingtongreysanatomy.jpgt.r.knightb.jpg

Isaiah Washington of Grey's Anatomy said he had "never" called gay castmate T.R. Knight "a faggot" at Monday's Golden Globes. Knight had earlier told Ellen DeGeneres that he had heard Washington use the term during a scuffle with Patrick Dempsey on the set of "Grey's Anatomy."

Isaiah Washington had seen issued a statement.

"I apologize to T.R., my colleagues, the fans of the show and especially the lesbian and gay community for using a word that is unacceptable in any context or circumstance. By repeating the word Monday night, I marred what should have been a perfect night for everyone who works on "Grey's Anatomy." I can neither defend nor explain my behavior. I can also no longer deny to myself that there are issues I obviously need to examine within my own soul, and I've asked for help.

I know the power of words, especially those that demean. I realize that by using one filled with disrespect, I have hurt more than T.R. and my colleagues. With one word, I've hurt everyone who has struggled for the respect so many of us take for granted. I welcome the chance to meet with leaders of the gay and lesbian community to apologize in person and to talk about what I can do to heal the wounds I've opened.

T.R.'s courage throughout this entire episode speaks to his tremendous character. I hold his talent, and T.R. as a person, in high esteem. I know a mere apology will not end this, and I intend to let my future actions prove my sincerity."

ABC has gotten around to responding to Isaiah Washington's use of a gay slur at the Golden Globes. The ABC statement, first reported by TV Guide, reads:

"We have a long-standing policy to create and maintain respectful workplaces for all our employees. We dealt with the original situation in October, and thought the issue resolved. Therefore, we are greatly dismayed that Mr. Washington chose to use such inappropriate language at the Golden Globes, that he himself deemed 'unfortunate' in his previous public apology. We take this situation very seriously, and his actions are unacceptable and are being addressed."

Lindsay Lohan enters rehab

lindsaylohanteddy1.jpg

Lindsay Lohan has checked herself into rehab.

In a statement issued through her rep, Leslie Sloane Zelnik, Lindsay says "I have made a proactive decision to take care of my personal health. I appreciate your well wishes and ask that you please respect my privacy at this time."

She arrived at the facility in a blacked out SUV followed by a caravan of two other cars. Looking somber, the actress carried a dark Balenciaga bag and a Jamba Juice, she wore black tights, a green flannel shirt, a leather jacket, and a black baseball cap that said "Lola."

Though Lohan didn’t attend the Golden Globe Awards, the actress was spotted at Prince’s after-party at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel where "she was totally out of it,” according to an onlooker.

Witnesses say that the starlet partied until 6 a.m. Tuesday morning.

Lindsay's mom, Dina, revealed last month that Lindsay had been attending AA meetings.

Brad and Angelina move to New Orleans

angelinejoliebradpittairport.JPG

Angelina Jolie tells Us Weekly that she and Brad Pitt have moved their three children, Maddox,5, Zahara, 2, and 7-month-old Shiloh, to New Orleans.

“We love it there,” Jolie said at the Golden Globe Awards after confirming the move. “The kids are going to go to school there. We're really looking forward to it.”

On January 12, just a day after moving to The Big Easy, Jolie was already mixing with the locals at restaurant Angeli on Decatur.

Diner Jorge Palacios said that the star – clad in an ivory dress over white pants – blended right in: “No one at my table believed me when I told them it was her.” And that’s just what she wants.

While Pitt works (he’s filming The Curious Case of Benjamin Button locally), sources say Jolie, 31, plans on being a low-key mom in the $3.5 million, six-bedroom, four-and-a-half bath mansion the pair recently purchased (their fourth house) in the French Quarter.

“She’s interested in befriending normal moms so she can do things with the kids,” says a Jolie source.

And who can forget their humanitarian efforts? “Angelina has asked for places she can do charity work,” says the source, who adds that Jolie had inquired about a school for disadvantaged youth. And construction is set to start this month on the 20 environment-friendly homes Pitt, 43, jointly commissioned with Global Green USA.

The couple also hope to raise awareness for the region, which was devastated by Hurricane Katrina. Says the source, “They think it is important to be there right now.”

Britney aged 15 years in 2 years time

britneyspearspink.jpg

Top Beverly Hills plastic surgeon Robert Rey has urged Britney Spears to take better care of herself after claiming shocking new pictures of the pop star suggest she's aged 15 years in just 2.

The surgeon, who fronts US reality TV show DR 90210, was stunned by new photos of Spears, which prompted America's top daily newspapers to ask, 'Is this really Britney?' earlier this month.

And he appeared on news show 'The insider' on 5 January to slam party-loving single mum Britney's pale and aged 'new look'.

Comparing the new late-night photo to one taken of the pop princess two years ago, Rey said, "There's puffiness under her eyes, the quality of the hair has changed. You can see even some wrinkles.

"One can see that she may have aged 10 to 15 years more."

Renée Zellweger to get a gun

reneezellwegerlime.jpg

Renée Zellweger is considering buying a gun to protect herself. The actress - who stars as children's author Beatrix Potter in Miss Potter - has revealed she finds living alone 'scary' and thinks a weapon could make her feel safer.

Renée told Britain's The Independent newspaper:

'People usually mean no harm, but it's scary if there is a car idling outside your house in the middle of the woods at four in the morning. You realise you can't live there any more. It's sad, but that's how it works. It's no big deal. It's just a job hazard. 'I don't want to own a gun, but sometimes I do think about it.'

Renée has a series of empty homes which she is too afraid to live in after being bombarded by fan mail from obsessive fans. The 37-year-old - who had a bodyguard 24 hours a day while filming 'Case 39' in Vancouver, Canada - revealed:

'I did buy a house. I have places to live, but I don't live there because I don't have time to get there and because I've had people show up at these houses, so it's not a friendly place for a girl who is single, without a dog, to live. It can be pretty scary sometimes when that letter is slipped under your door at your house. And it happens. I get those letters a lot and it's just a little scary.'

Ewan McGregor nude days are over

ewanmcgregor.jpg

Ewan McGregor has decided not to strip off in future movies, as he is getting too old.

The actor has got naked in numerous films in the past, the most notable being Trainspotting and Young Adam. And up until now, he has had every reason to keep doing it because he has found ways to cheat the ageing process.

He said in an interview with Britain's Radio 1:

"I shave my chest because having it hairy makes me look older. It's sexy when it's smooth. But when I shave it, I sometimes get a rash, which is a nightmare. And my wife gets it too. Having a shaved chest is cool for a day, until it starts growing back."

The 35-year-old star is married to French production designer Eve Mavrakis.
In keeping with his hair-free look, Ewan refused to grow a moustache for his role as book editor Norman Warne in 'Miss Potter'.

"I had to wear a fake moustache and it makes you speak really strange. If you're not careful, it will fall off. We shot this scene in the film where I had to laugh and it ended up looking really awkward, but they left the scene in."

However, McGregor's days of movie nudity are now numbered, for the sake of the audience: "I might protect people from the sight of my old flesh in future films," he added.

Wentworth Miller talks about MySpace and his sexuality

wentoworthmilleraustralia.jpg

When Wentworth Miller says he can't be your friend, he wants you to know he means it.

The star of Prison Break has had a hard time since shooting to international stardom on the back of the popular television thriller, which hit Australian screens in 2006.

But it's not personal, the 34-year-old insists - it's just that people requesting his friendship on the popular online networking site, myspace.com, are being duped. He said:

"I have people calling my agent asking which myspace page is mine and there are about a dozen," Miller told AAP on a publicity trip to Australia in December.

"And the fact is I've never been on myspace. People posing as me is a little unsettling, a little frightening... it disturbs me on a profound level."

It's been a dizzying rise to the top for the young actor, who came into the series with just a few movie and television credits to his name.

Miller admits a small cameo role in two of Mariah Carey's music video clips "did more for my career than anything I'd done up until that point".

At that point, he had just completed the pilot for Prison Break, which was to catapult the star in the celebrity sphere - a place Miller is still coming to terms with.

"What happens to your identity, to the perception of who you are on this journey is a strange one," he said while on his first visit down under.

"There's this kind of star struck dynamic, I guess that's why they invented that word to describe that moment when a fan comes running up to you and they're so excited to see you.

"(But) inevitably there's this moment, where the shoe drops and they realise they have no idea who you are.

"I guess it's that strangeness, the identification with an actor, with a character, (and) the reality that you don't really know them at all which is kind of hard to wrap your head around."

Barbara stands by Rosie

barbararosie.jpg

Barbara Walters is standing by Rosie O'Donnell in her bitter battle of words with Donald Trump.

Walters, creator of ABC's "The View," said Wednesday on the daytime chat show that she never told Trump she didn't want O'Donnell on the show, as he has claimed. She said:

"Nothing could be further from the truth,"

"She has brought a new vitality to this show and the ratings prove it," Walters said of O'Donnell, who is on vacation this week. When she returns, we will all welcome her back with open arms."

Walters also took a moment to smooth things over with The Donald, who got all riled up when O'Donnell said on "The View" that he had been "bankrupt so many times."

Walters said:

"ABC has asked me to say this just to clarify things, and I will quote: 'Donald Trump has never filed for personal bankruptcy. Several of his casino companies have filed for business bankruptcies. They are out of bankruptcy now.' "

O'Donnell and Trump have been feuding since he announced last month that Miss USA Tara Conner, whose title had been in jeopardy because of underage drinking, would keep her crown. Trump is the owner of the Miss Universe Organization, which includes Miss USA and Miss Teen USA.

Evangeline Lily threatens to quit Lost

evangelinelilystripe.jpg

Evangeline Lilly has hinted she will quit 'Lost' unless the show's fans stop hassling her.

The actress is growing weary of the constant attention she receives from followers of the programme and admits she sometimes considers walking away from her role as sexy fugitive Kate in the hit series.

Lilly, who is dating her 'Lost' co-star Dominic Monaghan, said:

"I am an incredibly private person, and it's so exhausting to me that everywhere I go people know me or think they know me. If I could act and make the income I make and be anonymous, I would never want to leave the job."

This is not the first time Lilly has complained about her fame.

She previously admitted she would like to go on holiday to a remote island where no one would recognise her because she is so sick of being hounded by fans and the media wherever she goes.

"I want to go somewhere like Mongolia or Timbuktu. Someplace where they don't watch 'Lost'!"

Demi Moore thought she would never click with Ashton

demimooreashtonkutcher.jpg

Demi Moore was as surprised as a lot of other people when she began dating Ashton Kutcher more than three years ago.

"If somebody would have said, `OK, here is the prediction: You're going to meet a man 25 years old and he's going to see being with you and having your three kids as a bonus,' I would have said, `Keep dreaming,'" the 44-year-old actress says in an interview in Vanity Fair magazine's February issue, on newsstands Jan. 9.

"I think it caught us both by surprise, and particularly him," Moore says of Kutcher, who is now 28. "He was in this real rise of his career just as we met, which for a young man is prime opportunity for heavy-duty play."

The couple were married in September 2005. Moore, whose screen credits include "Bobby," "Ghost" and "Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle," has three daughters from her marriage to Bruce Willis, which ended in 2000.

Kutcher, who starred in TV's "That '70s Show" and in films such as "Dude, Where's My Car?" and "The Guardian," is "really an old soul," Moore says.
